FAQ
What is the best way to wear the EFD?
The DEHNsense EFD can be worn either on the wrist (of the dominant hand - right or left-handed) or on the safety helmet. For this purpose, the strap is inserted into the slots provided in the adapter and the EFD is then inserted into the adapter.
Wearing on the wrist is recommended for use on switchgear. A flexible wrist strap is supplied for this purpose. In outdoor switchgear or when working on overhead line pylons, wearing the EFD on a hard hat is recommended.
Does the EFD have a standby mode?
If the DEHNsense EFD is not moved for more than approx. 5 minutes and does not detect an electric field, the device goes into an energy-saving ‘sleep mode’. However, as soon as the device is moved again, it performs a self-test and is active again.
How do I charge the battery of my EFD?
The EFD should be charged before first use or when the battery indicator flashes orange. Charging is contactless via a QI-certified charger (not included in the scope of delivery). To charge, the base unit of the EFD must be placed directly on the charging cradle without the adapter housing. The battery indicator then lights up orange until the charging process is complete. No measurement or display of the electrical field takes place during the charging process. Once charging is complete, the battery indicator goes out. After charging, the EFD must be restarted using the button. To ensure the fastest possible charging process, a charging power of >= 10W is recommended.
Attention: The battery can be replaced, but only by DEHN.
Does my EFD need to be serviced?
For the DEHNsense EFD, regular periodic testing by the manufacturer is recommended. The intervals for the periodic test must be determined according to the operating conditions, e.g. frequency of use, stress due to ambient conditions, transport, etc. It is recommended that a repeat test is carried out at least every 6 years.
How do I clean my EFD when it gets dirty?
If the DEHNsense EFD is dirty, it must be cleaned with a lint-free, damp cloth (e.g. microfibre cloth) before and after use. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents to clean the device. The DEHNsense EFD must always be handled with care.
What do I do if my EFD is damaged?
If the DEHNsense EFD is damaged or non-functional or not in proper condition, it must be withdrawn from use and sent to DEHN for repair without any intervention. Damaged devices must be excluded from reuse.

How do I connect the DEHNsense EFD to my smartphone/my app?
Make sure that the DEHNsense EFD is switched on (press the button for approx. three seconds) and Bluetooth is activated on your smartphone.
Use the + button on the ‘My devices’ page to add a new device and then select it. During the first pairing process with the EFD, the 6-digit PIN is requested via a pairing request. This can be found on the type plate of the EFD (back).
Once the two devices have been successfully paired, the DEHNsense EFD is active in the app and can be configured.
Can I determine the absence of voltage with the DEHNsense EFD?
No! The EFD serves as an additional safety warning against tension. In any case, the 5 safety rules must always be applied!
Who is authorised to use the DEHNsense EFD?
After instruction, only a qualified electrician (EFK) or an electrotechnically instructed person (EuP).
Is the EFD also suitable for low voltages and DC voltages?
No! The DEHNsense EFD is designed for AC voltages from 6 - 420 kV / 16.7 ... 60 Hz.
Can I put the DEHNsense EFD in my ‘trouser pocket’?
No! The EFD can only detect the electric field by pointing it freely towards the source of danger. Depending on the application, it can be worn on the helmet or wrist on clothing.
Can the DEHNsense EFD also be used without a smartphone?
Yes, after it has been configured for the first time using the DEHNwork app.
What should I do if the battery is completely discharged and the device can no longer be switched on?
Place the EFD on the charging cradle and wait until the orange charging symbol appears. The EFD is then fully charged again.
