DEHNguard MP YPV – Compact protection installed quickly
The importance of decentralised energy generation through PV systems will continue to increase. Safe operation of these systems is therefore essential for a stable energy supply. However, solar power cannot be generated without an inverter, the central component of a solar power system. But the inverter could be disrupted or even fail completely if, for example, subjected to the force of a lightning strike. Surge arresters (SPDs) for protecting the DC side of inverters are therefore an important component of protection concepts. DEHNguard MP YPV is the new surge protective device from DEHN for protecting photovoltaic systems on residential buildings. This Type 2 DC surge arrester expands the product range with its practical push-in double terminal. As a prewired, modular complete unit for photovoltaic systems, consisting of a base part and plug-in protection modules, it offers advantages for planning, installation and maintenance.Due to the special, non-linear characteristics of PV power sources, SPDs such as the DEHNguard MP YPV, which comply with the relevant manufacturer test standard EN 61643-31, must be used to protect the DC side of the inverter. The devices have a short-circuit strength Iscpv of 10 kA and are available for system voltages of 1,200 V and 1,500 V. The new product increases the reliability and longevity of the system with surge protection based on high-capacity varistors. The integrated fault-resistant Y circuit prevents damage to the surge protection in the event of insulation faults in the generator circuit. Short stroke loads of up to 40 kA (8/20 μs) can be handled. Smaller voltage peaks are also contained, which would also reduce the life expectancy of the PV electronics due to the sheer number of them. The devices have operating-current-free function and fault indication, which provides the user with immediate information about the operability of each and every protective circuit.The arrester is easy to install and is also ideal for retrofitting. The visible terminals and clear labelling make wiring easier and prevent installation errors. DEHNguard M YPV is connected by means of a push-in double terminal. EMC-optimised feed-through wiring can be easily implemented without additional terminals.

The family-owned company reconciles ecological, social and economic considerations with legal requirements and societal demands. “It is our corporate obligation to take responsibility for our own actions. Joining the UN Global Compact is the next step towards a consistently sustainable corporate focus." As the world's largest international organisation for the promotion of sustainable corporate development, the UN Global Compact aims to encourage companies to adopt sustainable and socially responsible business practices and to promote the implementation of the ten principles of the UN Global Compact for a fairer and more sustainable global economy. The principles cover the areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. Over 24,000 companies and organisations have already signed up to the UN Global Compact, thus contributing to the global vision. Prior to signing the voluntary commitment, DEHN had already implemented various measures to uphold the principles of sustainability. Past commitment and ongoing activities relevant to sustainability are currently being bundled into a group-wide sustainability strategy. By joining the UN Global Compact, DEHN promises to report annually on its progress in implementing the ten principles and its activities to promote sustainable development. "In doing so, we emphasise our long-standing commitment to sustainable business practices and responsible corporate governance and pledge to actively support and implement the ten principles of the pact," says Susanne Horn, who is responsible for sustainability in her role as Director of Corporate Development. "As participants in this independent and non-partisan initiative under the umbrella of the United Nations, we not only talk about sustainability, but also take concrete measures and make commitments to shape our future in a positive way." The network enables members to contact other companies and exchange best practices or to cooperate with various stakeholders.

DEHN at Light + Building 2024: Protection – Space – Future
More frequent extreme weather events and increasingly interconnected electronic devices pose a greater risk of damage due to lightning strikes and surges. Appropriate protective measures in compliance with current standards and regulations are required to protect people, buildings, systems, as well as modern energy generation and storage. From 3 to 8 March 2024, DEHN can be found at stand B90 in hall 12.0 where it will be presenting solutions for the new DIN 18014 as well as technologies and products for electrical engineering, home and building automation and safety technology. DEHN will be showcasing protection solutions for industry, PV systems and residential buildings, including refurbishment, renovation and modernisation.Open configuration options"One of the key challenges in the coming years will be making buildings and systems more efficient and future-proof” says Boris Wolff, CSO of DEHN SE. "The expansion of renewable energies and their infrastructures will play a crucial role here. The importance of PV systems, energy storage and control as well as system integration as part of building technology is therefore increasing. One focus is on modern electrical installations which are not only convenient, efficient and safe, but also meet the requirements of climate protection and the energy transition. A vital aspect of modern electrical installations is lightning and surge protection.New technologies, such as ACI (Advanced Circuit Interruption), set the course for the future. Renewable energy generation is creating new grid parameters: island networks or storage systems are changing the short-circuit conditions. This is one issue that the new ACI technology already has under control.The advancement of construction technology is ongoing. This means that earth-termination systems, an essential part of any electrical installation, must also be updated and adapted. DEHN grows: new building at the Mühlhausen site
At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, DEHN made the decision to make the largest single investment in the 114-year history of the family-owned company. The investment of over 50 million euros in our plant in Mühlhausen is a strong commitment to Bavaria as a business location in general and to the Neumarkt region in particular. More capacity for the megatrends of our timeWe already have a presence in Mühlhausen where we opened a 23,500-m² logistics centre with an integrated production area in 2014. However, global demand for DEHN products is so high that the current production capacities have reached their limits. In order to continue the company's success story, more production space was urgently needed. Surge protective devices and products for external lightning protection are manufactured in the new state-of-the-art production facility. Relocating parts of the production to Mühlhausen will free up much-needed space for the sales and development departments and administration at the company headquarters in Neumarkt. More capacity for the megatrends of our time: DEHN opens new main plant in Mühlhausen
After a construction phase of around two years, DEHN is opening its new and ultra-modern main plant in Mühlhausen. At over 50 million euros, the building represents the largest single investment in the company's 114-year history. The capacity expansion was urgently needed to meet the rapidly increasing global demand for DEHN products. The investment decision at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic is not only a forward-looking milestone in the continuation of DEHN's success story, but also a clear and long-term commitment to the Neumarkt region."Global megatrends such as renewable energies, electric mobility and digitalisation are key drivers of growth in recent years," says Dr Philipp Dehn, Chairman of the Board of DEHN SE. "Energy and data networks of the future can only function reliably with appropriate protection solutions. DEHN offers these solutions. Demand for our products therefore remains high and we see exciting global market opportunities in the future. The new and innovative plant in Mühlhausen will make a significant contribution in this respect." The new site is not only a sign of the company's strong growth and innovative strength, but also of its sense of responsibility towards its employees, the environment and the region. The new building fulfils the high requirements of the KfW40 standard, making it one of the most modern and sustainable industrial buildings in Bavaria. The ecological highlights include the use of district heating, building heating and cooling by means of concrete core activation, a 3,400 m² green roof and photovoltaic systems with an output of approx. 1,250 kWp. This means that DEHN produces around 60% of the energy required there itself. The new site also offers optimum conditions for the approximately 600 DEHN employees who work at state-of-the-art, ergonomic and height-adjustable (production) workstations. This also applies to the group of "inclusive workplace" jobs for people with disabilities, who are integrated directly into the production process and thus into the core workforce in close cooperation with Lebenshilfe Neumarkt. "In Mühlhausen, we combine the latest advances in ergonomics with manufacturing innovation and use the opportunities provided by digitalisation to optimally integrate the workstations into the production process", explains Christian Köstler, COO of DEHN SE. "For us, this means that workstations can be set up ergonomically and individually and are meaningfully supported by digital processes. Materials are supplied by automated guided vehicles (AGVs), which in turn ensure a smooth production process." The new production facility is an extension of the existing logistics centre that DEHN opened in Mühlhausen back in 2014. The main plant covers a large part of the production volume, which is delivered from Mühlhausen all over the world.
