WAGO telecontrol solutions for monitoring power grids

WAGO offers measurement and control and telecontrol technology for transformer substations and customer utilities substations in one system.

To ensure the required system availability, the compact WAGO solution is protected by arresters that are specially designed for use in wireless applications for device and antenna interfaces in coaxial connection technology.

The challenge

For grid operators, the challenge of integrating more and more decentralised generation systems and the growing charging station infrastructure into their grid increases with each passing day.

In order to fulfil this mammoth task, it is necessary to implement automation technology, especially in substations. The load flows must be transparent and voltage bands must be regulated in order to keep the grid stable.

At the same time, the probability of damage caused by lightning and overvoltage increases. In order to ensure high system availability and safe, trouble-free operation, a comprehensive overall protection system for lightning and surge protection is required.

The solution

The substation is going digital. To this end, WAGO offers measurement and control technology for transformer substations and customer utilities substations in a single system. This includes, for example, components for analysing the grid, the integration of electronic meters, short-circuit indicators and communication devices. Software solutions are also available to display the power grid transparently and optimise it in this way. The connection to the network control technology is also easily realised.

To ensure the required system availability, the compact WAGO solution is protected by DEHN arresters against damage caused by surges. This is achieved using surge arresters for power supply systems and arresters that are specially customised for use in wireless applications for device and antenna interfaces using coaxial connection technology.
