Advantages of standard-compliant lightning protection in accordance with IEC 62305
Standards are the key to greater safety and reliability. With the update of IEC 62305, the standards defined therein have not only been updated, but also adapted to the requirements of the times.
Those who orientate themselves to standards and adhere to them are thinking ahead and preparing themselves for the future.
Our solutions often not only fulfil the current minimum requirements, but also take further updates into account.
Benefits at a glance:
- Safety first
The minimum requirements listed in IEC 62305 effectively protect life, technology and infrastructure against the effects of lightning. - Economically viable
Damage, downtimes and financial burdens can be avoided with standard-compliant lightning protection. - Globally recognised standard
Standardised specifications ensure seamless safety and the functioning interaction of systems. - Sustainable, reliable and foresighted
Earthing, lightning current discharge and protective measures according to the current state of the art. New requirements now also cover modern building technology and IT infrastructure. A new feature is the reference to IEC 61643-32 regarding the use of surge arresters in photovoltaic installations.
Standard-compliant solutions.
We have the answer to the minimum requirements of IEC 62305 Edition 3. Our products not only offer compliance with IEC 62305, they are also designed for reliable implementation in the long term.
We will show you how you can optimise your response to the standard update with our portfolio.

DEHNrisk – the future of lightning protection analysis
DEHNrisk complies with IEC 62305-2:2024 and is the answer to the updated risk assessment requirements. With DEHNrisk, you can determine the lightning risk for structures comprehensively, quickly and precisely. The Web-based application provides support in determining the lightning protection class required and other measures.

Electrical insulation with HVI Lightning Protection from DEHN
Edition 3 of IEC 62305-3 describes electrically insulated lightning protection systems for the first time. Whether it's specifically on the roofs of industrial buildings or very generally in complex building structures – it all comes back down to the separation distance. Using the high-voltage-resistant, insulated HVI Conductors from DEHN, you can easily maintain separation distances to live parts. Available in a wide variety of designs. Our DEHNiso Combi portfolio is also suitable for further specifications of the updated IEC 62305.

No backup fuse thanks to ACI technology from DEHN
Part 4 of IEC 62305 describes the minimum requirements for the backup fuse of surge arresters. The design of a backup fuse is highly complex and has a negative impact on system availability if it is incorrectly dimensioned. It is also necessary to monitor the fuses.
ACI (Advanced Circuit Interruption) technology eliminates the need for an external backup fuse thanks to the integrated switch/spark gap combination. For more space in the switchgear cabinet, greater flexibility during installation and reliable system protection.

Testing at the accredited test centre
Edition 3 of IEC 62305-3 describes the correct selection of lightning protection components that are tested in accordance with the IEC 62561 product standard. The solution: the accredited and independent DEHN Test Centre carries out product and system tests according to standards or customer specifications. The test facility for lightning impulse currents with pulses of up to 400 kA is unique

Simulations regarding current distribution
Annex E of IEC 62305 Edition 3 presents simulations of lightning current distribution for the first time – for more precise analysis and the correct dimensioning of surge arresters (SPDs). Our training courses show you how the simulations affect the selection of suitable SPDs.
