fuel stations
The importance of hydrogen has grown as a result of the energy revolution. The proportion of vehicles powered by sustainable energy, such as hydrogen, is steadily increasing. As hydrogen is highly flammable, operators of hydrogen fuel stations are obliged to protect people and equipment.
Telescopic lightning protection mast
High-voltage-resistant, insulated, HVI down conductors for maintaining the separation distance from electrically conductive parts as per VDE 0185-305-3.
Potential control
Potential control measures, e.g. through tested mesh mats; for preventing dangerous step and touch voltages.
Equipotential bonding in hazardous areas
Equipotential bonding measures specifically for areas at risk of explosion, e.g. equipotential bonding bars, pipe clamps and clamps. Non-sparking and secured against self-loosening

The right way to lightning and surge protection for hydrogen fuel stations
Fuel stations are public areas where it is important not to expose the people who use them and work there to any danger and also to prevent the systems from breaking down. Hydrogen poses its own challenges, because if it ignites in an uncontrolled manner or forms an explosive mixture with other components, people and equipment can be harmed.
To prevent this from happening, we at DEHN recommend an integrated protection concept with protective devices especially for hazardous areas, which include external lightning protection, surge protection and earthing/equipotential bonding. Our protective devices help you prevent hazards like sparking – a reaction that can be fatal in hazardous areas and lead to explosions. Insulated or isolated lightning protection systems ensure that no partial lightning currents flow into the system. This prevents any interaction with potentially explosive atmospheres.
Isolated lightning protection systems and air-termination systems from DEHN are installed at a distance from installations using an insulator. We use high-quality glass-fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) as the insulation material. The design and dimensioning of the holding and functional units are based on electrical and mechanical parameters. Isolated lightning protection also includes self-supporting air-termination rods and masts, which you erect at ground level at a distance from objects. You can dispense with routing cables on roofs and walls.
Insulated HVI lightning protection from DEHN offers maximum protection and a high degree of flexibility during installation. The HVI Conductor, the high-voltage-resistant, insulated down conductor, is used here.
